Wer nicht lesen will, darf sehen – beim Portable Film Festival. Da gibt es 180 Kurzfilme aus der ganzen Welt (yep, auch deutsch Filme sind dabei) und wir Zuschauer dürfen in den kommenden Wochen den besten Film wählen. Klingt doch gut.

Lisa Kling war bei den „Writers on Genre“-Veranstaltungen der Writers Guild Foundation:
One of the panel discussions was about Drama/Real Life stories. Another one was about Sci Fi and Fantasy. On the surface, opposite ends of the creative spectrum, right? But I heard the very same piece of advice from both sets of writers: the historical accuracy (or fantastical creativity) of your script isn’t nearly as important as the emotional reality.

Außerdem weist sie auf die Seite von Lindsey Hughes hin: Screen Story Success. Hughes schreibt darüber, warum verschiedene Filme funktionieren und andere nicht. Lesenwert; – auch ihre Liebeserklärung an die Besucher der Comic Con:
Some people make fun of these extreme fans, but I think they are wonderful. They love the stories and characters so much that they want to live them. As creators engendering this devotion is what we should aspire to. Hopefully every person in the theater is swept away to the world we created and doesn’t want to come back.
Apropos Liebe. Da ist die Romantic Comedy nicht weit:
I just saw THE UGLY TRUTH and it was ugly. There is nothing worse than a mediocre or bad romantic comedy and that is what we usually get. In my opinion romantic comedies are the most difficult genre to write because they are all about character and dialogue. The story is always the same. Guy and girl meet, but for some reason they can’t immediately be together so they spend the movie lying and arguing until they realize they love each other. For simplicity’s sake the lovers are almost always polar opposites, giving lots of opportunity for conflict. In the movies, opposites really do attract.

Und der Noir of the Week ist „Shield for Murder“ (Freibrief für Mord, USA 1954). Regie führten Edmond O’Brien (der auch die Hauptrolle spielt) und Howard W. Koch. Das Drehbuch ist von Richard Allan Simmons und John C. Higgins. Es ist die wohl unbekannteste Verfilmung eines Romans von Willam P. McGivern. Warum erfahren Sie hier.
